The best stand up paddle boards for boats and yachts
Fort Lauderdale is the megayacht capital of the world, and home to the world’s largest on-the-water boat show, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. As a result, we see more than a few owners, captains, mates and crew members in our shop who are seeking the best boards for their vessel.
Now, there’s no “one size fits all” board for boats. So we’ve listed a few that we’ve found to work well on vessels of all sizes.
The Bounce SUP SUPer Cruiser – 11’4 x 32”
Let’s face it – life on board a vessel can be tough on water toys. They can get jostled around, handled without care by charter guests, or left in the elements for extended periods of time. While most epoxy/glass boards can struggle in an environment like this, the US-made Bounce SUPs thrive.
Typically, to get a board as durable as the Bounce SUPer Cruiser, you’d have to go with kayak-style construction – rotomolded or blow-molded plastic, not shaped like a performance SUP and weighing in the 45-55 lb range. That’s just no fun. Bounce SUPs weigh in at 34 lbs with an easy-grab LiftSUP handle in their standard construction, and just 27 lbs in their hollow construction.
A nice-gliding board, the SUPer Cruiser has excellent tracking, very good stability, and is the most durable SUP we’ve found in this weight range. $1200 in standard construction – $1450 in lightweight, hollow construction.
The Surftech Universal – 10’6 x 32” or 11’6 x 32.35”
The name Surftech has been associated with high-quality, top-performing stand up paddleboards for a long time, and the Universal’s a core piece of their offerings. Built to commercial standards, it features a Randy French design that makes the board at home in flat water or in surf. High volume rails add significant stability, and the full-length deck pad makes this SUP ideal for additional riders, be they 2- or 4-legged.
Stand up paddle boarding is a great sport for just about any person, and the Surftech Universal makes it easy for beginning riders to feel comfortable right away. We often see charter vessels add these to their offerings because of their blend of stability and durability, and for their ease of care.
10’6 – just $1200, and the 11’6 is just $1250, making them excellent values.
The Suplove Adventurer – 11’2 x 30.5”
“Well, SUP Dude, those other boards are nice, but I want a board that looks as good as my ship.” And that’s where the Suplove Adventurer comes in. A sleek, gleaming bamboo board with stunning graphic pad design options, these boards do not skimp on quality. When Suplove builds a board, it’s vacuum-bagged each layer, increasing the board’s strength and stiffness while saving the extra weight.
The shape is dynamic – one of the fastest surf-style boards we have tested, with good stability and very good glide. And there are few boards with their eye-catching looks, which is a nice plus…Priced between $1495-1575, depending on pad options.
If space is at a premium on your boat, you may want to consider the new inflatable stand up paddle boards. Most manufacturers have advanced their construction technologies significantly in the last 2 years, and they’re building beautiful, durable, stiff inflatable boards in all shapes and sizes. Priced between $1100 and $1850, depending on quality, weight, and features, they’re an excellent go-anywhere option. Stop in to see inflatable SUPs from Fanatic and Mistral, two of our favorites.
